We are Ripley, West Virginia.

Founded in 1830, Ripley was soon established as the seat of Jackson County. Our town was named in honor of a young and respected local minister, forming a foundation on family values that has survived and grown for generations. We are proud that we have preserved our small town American lifestyle, which is best displayed in our 4th of July Celebration, the largest small town event of its kind in the Country. Indeed, this patriotic identity has made Ripley an important whistle-stop destination for Presidents and those seeking to lead our nation.

These traditions have forged Ripley’s character, one that is known for the support and respect for our friends and neighbors, as well as the nurturing of our children that leads to the next generation of strong families, and engaged citizens. We invest in our youth in Ripley, and our Vikings pride is a testament to this. From the continued notoriety of our schools’ academics, to the roar after the crack of the bat or the ball inching over the goal line, we bleed blue and white here. This is why our children ultimately return to our community to grow their families and perpetuate the Ripley spirit.

In Ripley, we live fully with no restrictions, and are determined to make our community a better place. Our modern city hall complements the historic courthouse, and we preserve our landmarks like the Alpine Theater for the enjoyment of future generations. We have a history of success in Ripley, whether it be the downtown streetscape improvements, the Mill Creek Water Trail, and the future art gallery on Main.

Perhaps the most telling image of Ripley’s small town lifestyle is our downtown and iconic courthouse square. Downtown is still the heart of activity in our community, and our citizens meet their neighbors at events on the square or at meals a local restaurant. Downtown Ripley is a throwback to simpler times, where the local dress shop lets customers try on their selections at home, the 168-year old furniture store prepares gift baskets for new residents, and the local jeweler greets customers with a smile and their children with a toy. This is why we love Ripley, where we have perfected the Art of American Living.
